Childrens matinee at the cinema, was a trying time for members of the staff. They had to put up with all sots of abuse and indignities trying to keep control of hundreds of unruly kids, who were just as bad inside the cinema as they were on the street outside. In this painting, the doorman’s hat has been knocked askew from behind, and a boy lifts the tail of his coat to allow another boy the opportunity of sticking a pin in his backside, while mayhem continues in the queue.
