This is a painting of an actual street which, at one time, existed in the East End of Glasgow typical of so many back streets where children of the 30s lived their lives. This street was composed mainly of tenement blocks, a woodyard belonging to a local businessman who was a builder and a demolisher, and a couple of small general shops. The red brick building on extreme left is part of a cotton mill which once stood there on the corner of Millerston Street. It was owned by a firm called ‘McCoards’.
